You don’t need to overhaul your entire pantry overnight. Instead, it’s all about those easy swaps—choosing better options for the foods you already love.

Today, I’m sharing some of my favourite healthy swaps that are simple to make and packed with health benefits. Let’s get into it!

Swap 1: Crisps for Crunch

Who doesn’t love a crunchy snack? But let’s be honest—most crisps are loaded with unhealthy fats and salt. Here’s what you can try instead:

  • Swap crisps for air-popped popcorn: It’s just as crunchy, lower in fat, and you can season it yourself with spices like paprika or a sprinkle of parmesan.

  • Upgrade to veggie crisps: Look for baked options made from kumara, beetroot, or carrots. Just check the label—some are still sneaky with added oils or sugars.

Swap 2: Fizzy Drinks for Refreshing Alternatives

Sugary drinks can be a huge source of hidden calories and sugar spikes. Here’s how to stay refreshed without them:

  • Swap soft drinks for sparkling water: Add a squeeze of lemon, lime, or even a few fresh berries for natural flavour.

  • Try kombucha: It’s a slightly fizzy, gut-friendly drink that’s becoming a staple here in NZ and Oz. Just keep an eye on the sugar content—some brands can be surprisingly sweet!

Ice cream might be a family favourite, but the high sugar and saturated fat content can add up quickly.

  • Swap ice cream for frozen yoghurt: Look for unsweetened or lightly sweetened options, or try making your own at home with Greek yoghurt and blended fruit.

  • Try nice cream: Blend frozen bananas with a splash of almond milk and cocoa for a creamy, guilt-free dessert.
